HOT Breakfast and heels!

Every other morning I wonder, "How did this happen?" After having my children beg EVERY morning for hot breakfast I came up with the idea of cooking only every other day. They are no fans of cereal. So when they asked if they could have a hot breakfast I answered "only if you eat cereal every other day."

Now I have better responses:

  1. Once a week
  2. Only on weekends
  3. Only on Federal Holidays, or better yet
  4. When Dad can cook, although that leaves clean up for me!

Well, lucky for them we have hot breakfast at our house every other day. Who could say no such a cute face? It also helps with the guilt as I send them off into the world. I sometimes feel guilty about not home schooling them and cooking a hot breakfast seems reasonable penance.
All I have to say on that is thank heavens for Costco and Krustys(as we call it.) My secret weapon.
Now on to the plans for the weekend. Jason and I were invited to a dinner. It was all well and good until the last two words on the invite. So small you can't even read them. The dread inspiring words are, BLACK TIE. Has any one out there shopped recently for a formal gown? I thought back to fun days of winter formals and proms. Little did I think about how much tinier I was back then and how much tinier the dress are now. I also forgot how I loved shopping weekend after weekend searching for just the right thing. And even then I often got my mom to sew something that combined elements of several dresses. I never could settle on just one pattern (Sorry Mom).

So after five stores and hours of driving I came home with TWO. That's right, I couldn't make up my mind, so I bought them both and got advise from the hubbie and kids.

Here they are. The one on the left has a top of that puckery, stretchy material. Not sure I like that in a formal gown, but I do love the skirt and the silver. The one on the right is is blue and reminds me of something a mother of the bride might wear. It is also the same blue as my bed spread, maybe future throw pillows for the dress. As you can tell I am not happy with either. But honestly that is all that is out there with sleeves and a back. And the blue one has only wide straps on the under dress, so no taking off the jacket. Where is Nordstrom and that wonderful personal shopper when you need her? At least shoe shopping was fun. Katie picked these out and I love them. Not sure they are right with either dress but I had to get at least one thing I love. I think I will head out this morning and try at least one more store, but I think that is all I have in me.
On a different subject. Here are a few more pictures of the yard and spring around here. This is the tree that I previously posted. I think it is funny how a few days later the top started to bud out all in white.
This is the yard in the morning after a rainy night. I love how the light is filtering in.

Just a picture of the new bird feeder. The squirrels have not found how to get to it yet. We have had blue birds and cardinals feeding and you can see them from the family room window.

Well that is all for now. Off to get dressed for more shopping, some one save me. Where are you mom? Come home now, this is an emergency!

  1. Awesome pictures!! You're a pro at this already! Sorry about the dress dilemma. I've worn the same skirt to church for six months, and Nikki gave that to me--not a huge fan of shopping here...
